How to Grow Hair Fast

On average, you can expect your hair to grow anywhere from a quarter of an inch to a half an inch each month. However, there are things that you can do to encourage your hair to grow faster!

As a teenager, my hair grew very fast. But as I became older and began to put my hair through a lot – that process slowed down. I didn’t even notice until I began to feel as if my hair never grew. I took a moment to think back on how I treated my hair before – when a bad hair cut grew out quickly. What I realized is that I used to allow my hair to – be natural much more often.

Here are a few basics I went back to that helped trigger my hair to once again grow long and fast.

Please not that there may be genetics or other inhibitors that are keeping your hair from growing. What worked for me, may not work for you.

Nutrients

As a child and young adult – I had a better vitamin and nutrient regiment. One, my mother insisted on my eating of a healthy diet and getting my daily vitamins. As I became an adult – I preferred to rely on sugar and a lot less exercise. Was that a mistake! It took a toll not only on my body but also on my hair. My hair quit growing as quickly and as strongly as it had previously.

I take a good multivitamin as well as a large dose of Biotin. I take two of these Biotin 5000mcg capsules each day to really help boost my hair growth!

Biotin, is a part of the B-complex group of vitamins that help to turn food into fuel for energy. It assists in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and amino acids which are the building blocks of protein.

Massage

Did you know that your scalp and hair benefit from a good massage? A scalp massage that is! Stimulate hair growth by using the tips of your fingers or nails to gently massage thoroughly over your scalp. I find it easiest to massage my scalp while I am leaning over. This keeps me from needing to constantly move my hair about and allow my finger tips to run over my scalp.

I also use a a scalp massager like the on you see below! It makes it even easier and feels even better than using only my finger tips.

If you’re a fan of massaging your scalp while you shampoo (yes, I love it too!) then try this one made specifically for shampooing.

Stop Washing

Yes, you heard me. Quit washing your hair! Often, that is. Allow the oils that occur naturally on your scalp to do as nature intended – and help repair your damaged hair! It took a bit of training, but I’m able to only wash my hair two or three times per week and as needed if I’ve had a rigorous workout.

Between washes – use a dry shampoo to help train your scalp and hair to need fewer washings per week. One of my favorite dry shampoos is by Living Proof. It helps to dissolve the build up of oils without drying out my hair while also adding volume.

Cold Water

I absolutely love a nice steamy shower – but did you know that all of that luxurious hot water strips your hair of moisture and even weakens the strands making it more prone to breakage? When it’s time to wash your locks, make sure to turn the water temperature down to a lukewarm temperature to help keep your hair’s natural shine.

Drink that H20!

Not only do you need to be aware of the water you’re putting on your hair – you need to think about the water used to help nourish your hair from the inside out. In order for your vitamins and supplements to work well – your body needs water to keep everything hydrated and moving along smoothly! Now, I’m not able to drink a gallon of water a day as some women claim to do – but I am taking a significant amount. I always notice not only a change in my skin, and energy when I become lax on my water consumption – but I also see a change in my hair’s growth. It slows.

So, grab yourself a reusable water bottle and keep it with you at all times!

Can’t Take the Heat

Your hair really can’t take all of the heat that you throw at it – constantly. If you must blow dry your hair – turn it to a cooler setting instead of a heat wave that seems to be straight from the fires of… well, you know. It may take a bit longer to dry, but you will love the softness it creates with a cooler temp.

If you can’t avoid using a styling tool – remember to create a nice barrier between your hair and that oh so hot tool. I use several different products depending on my mood and the occasion. These are by far my favorite:
