If you’re anything like me, I’m constantly worrying over whether or not I’m doing the right thing as a parent. I frett over a lot of decisions and whether or not I’ve thoroughly checked out a situation, event, or activity. It’s hard to do it all and it’s downright exhausting.

The world seems full of dangers and protecting our children from it can seem daunting at times. This may surprise you – as it did me – but the seemingly helpful and harmless baby changing stations in a public restroom could be more hazardous than you might have imagined.

Recently, Jessica Wayman posted a warning to her Facebook in order to share some very important and helpful information. Something I’d never heard of. So feel free to share your opinions and thoughts below – as this is all news to me! She urges parents to always, always wipe down and clean a baby changing station before use. Why? The answer was shocking to me. Jessica goes on to explain that the black marks you might find on baby-changing tables are from burnt spoons – where addicts have used the table when they shoot up. She states that this could leave the table with residue from meth, heroin or other harmful bodily fluids.

I have always wiped the baby-changing tables down before I’ve used them – but never imagined I may be wiping away anything like that.

After her post went viral, Jessica hopped back into the discussion to explain that she is a recovering addict, and she knows how very real this can be. Her hope is to warn unsuspecting moms, dads, and caregivers who never would have thought the tables might be used for those purposes.

PSA: Before putting your babies anywhere near these things, ALWAYS wipe them down first. Even if you are in a hurry,…

She goes on to explain that she is referencing the more private changing tables that you’ll find in handicap stalls and family bathrooms.

So – be sure to thoroughly wipe down that baby-changing table before you use it!
