National Park Service Centennial

Did you know, it’s the National Park Service’s 100th birthday! Let’s join together in wishing the NPS a very happy birthday this week! The National Park Service officially turns 100 on August 25, 2016, and we can’t wait to celebrate this historic occasion with you and your community. Over the past 100 years, the National Park Service has grown from just 35 to an astounding 412 national park units, giving us 412 reasons to get out and have an adventure!

There are many ways you and your community can show your love and support for the national parks across the country this week.

Here are some ideas:

If you’re in the New York City area on August 22, stop by Brooklyn Bridge Park for family-friendly activities. We’ll be there with Centennial Ambassador Bill Nye to celebrate the innovation of Thomas Edison National Historical Park and to kick off the week of centennial fun.

  • Join the national park friends and family community by participating in the Find Your Park Twitter Chat on August 23 at 1pm EST, co-hosted by @GoParks and @NatlParkService.
  • #FindYourPark / #EnquentraTuParque by visiting a favorite or new, undiscovered park during fee-free days, August 25-28.
  • Virtually transport yourself using this creative Pic Your Park social media feature.
  • For inspiration and ideas, be sure to check out these 99 ways to #FindYourPark / #EnquentraTuParque and the National Park Foundation’s Owners Guides.
