It’s good practice to change your vacuum cleaner’s filter or HEPA filter often. But there are a few factors that will be the determining factor in how often you will need to actually change your vacuum filter. Always refer to the manufacturer’s suggestions and compare that with your usage.
So, almost all manufacturers will recommend that you change your vacuum filter 2 – 4 times per year. This will of course depend on how often the vacuum is used – and the level of dirt/dust it is being used to pick up. Is the vacuum being used in a craft area, or very high trafficked area – daily? You may want to change it more often than someone who lives alone, has no pets, no visitors, etc…
How often should I change my vacuum filter?
The simple answer is, that you should change your vacuum’s filter every 3 – 6 months. Keep in mind that the longer between replacements – the more and more clogged that the filter will become and the less effective it will be.
As mentioned above, if the vacuum is used in a high trafficked area – you’ll need to replace the filter much more often. If the vacuum is used to keep dust and allergens of the carpet – you may want to consider replacing the filter often.
Where do I find vacuum filter replacements?
So, the directions that came with your vacuum may instruct you to only replace the filter with an official filter replacement from that manufacturer. This is completely fine if you want to do it that way. Personally, I’ve had a lot of luck by purchasing generic replacement vacuum filters on Amazon.
I carefully read the reviews and questions before making my selection and haven’t yet received one that didn’t work.
Tip: Be sure to know exactly which vacuum you have before placing an order for a replacement filter!
