Summer is a joyful, and sometimes chaotic, time for kids. But it can also be full of those sweet moments spent reading stories before bed.
Here’s a list of some wonderful books to read with kids this summer – whether that’s before bed or on rainy days.
The Friendly Mouse by Sophia R. Tyler

Evoking the tone and style of Aesop’s Fables, this new picture book calls back to beloved classics like Peter Rabbit. Despite being overwhelmed by his struggles, Mouse chooses to be kind and learns that, sometimes, your job isn’t your most important responsibility. The book also includes activities for parents and kids to continue learning about kindness together. Debut author Sophia R. Tyler hopes to reintroduce the timeless message of the Golden Rule to young children. Currently a senior at Hope College, Sophia will begin the Master of Social Work program at the University of Denver in Fall 2023.
